BARBARA HALL
In the spotlight this month
is a pri-tty, brown-eyed, blonde
senior commonly called "Babs"
lor short.
Barbara Glover Hall was
born in Phoenix, Oregon, on
January 29. 1934. She moved to
Ashland while in the eighth
grade and has attended schools
here ever since.
This 5 loot 2'i inch girl likes
to play tenis, does texttile
painting as a hobby, and en
joys embroidering. Her favor
ite pastime, however, is none
of these for she spends the big
gest share of her time writing
to her husband Dick, who is
stationed in Puerto Rico. She
said her one dislike was being
away from him. "My pet peeve
is being called Barbara Glover
instead of Hall, too!" she stat
ed. One of her most embarass-
ing moments was when Dick
brought her home from school
one day, and her mother, upon
seeing that one side of Bar
bara's face was red, told her
she'd "better tell Dick to
shave!"
"Oh, corn," can often be
heard coming from Barbara,
and she even comes out with
it in her favorite class, which
is steno. As for teachers, she
said she liked 'em all. Barbara's
favorite food is shrimp, which
she dearly loves.
When school is out, Barbara
plans to join her husband in
Puerto Rico and set up house
keeping there.
Car of the Month
Colette Perrine is one of the
luckier girls at Ashland High
because she owns her very own
car.
The car which she received
last summer and had painted a
metallic blue, is a 1941 Ford,
is lowered, and has twin pipes.
The steering wheel is covered
with leopard skin.
Colette has taken excellent
care of her car, despite the fact
that Norma Stephens ran Into
it.
While Mrs. lone Taylor at
tended a SOCE Faculty Wives
Club. Wednesday evening,
January 28, someone stole the
family car that had been park
ed near the house.
The next day the 1950 Mer
cury was recovered in Hilt,
California, where the police
found it was abandoned for a
later model. Fortunately the
automobile was insured.

JOHN REYNEN
Anyone walking down the
halls of Ashland high can't
help but notice a 6 foot, black-
haired, brown-eyed senior,
named John Reynen.
John was born in Ridgewood,
New Jersey, on November 26,
1935. He came to Ashland with
his family in 1947. He attend
ed Ridgewood grade schools
before starting junior high
here.
John belongs to the Letter
man's Club, Co-Ed Hi Y. and

Do You Have
Time to Spare?
What do you do with
all
your ' spare time? Stop
and
think for a minute. Just what
DO you do with it? Do you
spend it on the phone like some
people do, or do you just sit
around and do nothing?
This was the question de
bated upon in a Girls' League
meeting. A film on this topic
was shown, and it proved true
that many people do spend
their spare time on the phone.
When you stay on the phone
for hours, do you realize that
maybe someone else wishes to
use the phone?
After the film, Norma Ste
phens called for suggestions
about how to get people off the
phone. Then Norma called on
Barbara Owen to tell how she
did all her homework, house
work, and also her job.

CAROLE JEAN GULP
There's a ray of sunshine in
Ashland High named Carole
Jean Culp. If you're unable to
detect her by her smile, you
can't miss the redhead who is
most nearly always with her.
Carole is one of the few mem
bers o the senior class who has
gone to Ashland schools all of
her life. Her native state,
though, is Missouri; she was
born in Kennet, Missouri, on
December 29, 1935.
She is now a pretty blue
ieyed, blonde, standing 5 feet
5'i inches tall.
When asked what her ideal
boy must look like she hurried-
!ly replied, "He must be 5 feet
inches tall, have reddish
blonde hair," and she said very
j thoughtfully, "eyes," then went
ion to add, 'ond be fanatically
crazy about golf. There now, he
ought , to know who I'm talk
ing about."
Carole has wanted to be a
lab technician for a long time;
so naturally she plans to go to
college.

cop:
"Does this ticket cancel the
one I got this morning, Offi
cer?" "
Poppy: "Why did the duck
walk across the road softly?" .
Judy: "Because he was just
a little duck and couldn't walk
hardly!"

Tommy Carter
Some students have noticed
a big sophomore named Tom
my Carter taking in the classes
this year. Of course, it is not
unusual to see any sophomore
attending classes, but for Tom
my it is; Tommy is nearly
blind.
Last year he attended the
Oregon State School for the
Blind. He gets, his books for
book reports on recordings
from the Library of Congress.
An extra large pencil and ex
tra wide lined sheets of paper
aid him with his geometry les
sons. Some think it strange
that he can still attend school.
But Tommy not only plans to
finish high school, he plans to
go on to college.
He hopes to attend Oregon
Tech at Klamath Falls and ma
jor in mathematics. When he
graduates he will be able to
teach math In schools and may
be instruct other blind stu
dents. It is a high goal to set; just
ask Tommy's teachers if they
think he will make it. Even if
they seem doubtful. Tommy's
answer is always a firm, "Yes."
John Reynen and Kennie
Rogers were going to start out
on a desert trip. John was talk
ing to a stranger about their
equipment.
"Kennie and I are travelin
light. He's taking nothing but
whiskey for rattlesnake bites.
"And what are you taking0"
"Two rattlesnakes."
