Lose to Willamette
The Grizzlies lost their first
pre-conference game of the sea
son to Willamette High in the
last 25 seconds, as Willamette
scored five points in less than
a half minute to take the 48
to 45 decision.
The Grizzlies had trouble
hitting shots in the first half
and trailed 23 to 18 at half
time. However, in the second
half they scored six points be
fore Will-Hi could make a
point. It put Ashland ahead 24
to 23. The score was tied at
27 before baskets by Jeffries
and Lininger, plus a free throw
by Mel Taylor, made it 32 to
29 for the Grizzlies. With only
2:08 remaining in the ball
game the score was 45 to 41.
A field goal and free throw
again put Will-Hi within two
points of the Grizzlies. Ash-

of the second quarter. Char
ley Martinson made the score
from the Ashland 2 yard line.
The Grizzlies gave some ap
pearance of coming back a few
minutes later as Dave Herberg

after a series of plays, Ted
Tenney went off tackle for the
score. Richie Taylor ran the
conversion, but an offside set

ered a fumble on the Ashland

out, and the Grizzlies started

With heavy resistance the
Grizzlies finally scored as
Richie Taylor went over.
The last score came as the
Bears were on the Tide's goal
line, but they were held and
'the Tides took over. Fields
faded back to pass, he was
rushed, end as he dropped the
