NOVEMBER 14. 1952 GRIZZLIES LOSE TO KLAMATH The Ashland Grizzlies scared the daylights out of Klamath Falls, the State's No. 2 ranked prep football squad, before los ing 19 to 7. In the fourth quarter the Grizzlies were on Klamath's 8 yard line and on the verge of putting over a second touch down, while Klamath had a lead of 13-7. Ashland's lone score was made by Ted Tenny, who has been showing up well all year Tpnnv parried th hall from 20 yards out and went through the I38 yard line. From there they left side of the Pelican line, drove to the 16. But Jim Jeff- (QrizzDies BSSstricft Champs Grizzlies Trounce Eagle Point, 38-0 The Ashland Grizzlies snap ped the Eagle Point winning streak by romping over them by a score of 8 to 0, here Fri day, October 17. Taking the kickoff, Ashland fumbled on the first play, and Eagle Point took over on the ran into a swarm of Klamath tacklers, reversed the field and out-flanked the secondary to score standing up. Clyde James kicked the ball through the uprights, and the score became 13-7. Wayne South, Bob Delsman, Bob Platko, and Jack Herberg er played one of the best games of the year in the line of de fense. Time after time they walked over the Pel's much heavier line. South charged through the Klamath line and snatched the ball from Kenny Young, then proceeded to run the ball five yards to the Klam ath 17. A 15 yard penalty and 2 incomplete passes gave the Pels possession of the ball. Klamath scored the first time they had the ball. A midfield pass from Larry Yarnell to Jim Dougherty was completed. Be hind good blocking Dougherty raced 37 yards to the TD. Vern on Pryon booted the conver sion. The second Pel touchdown came in the second quarter as Klamath marched to the Ash land 2 yard line and scored from a line plunge by Dougherty. Kicking off to Eagle Point, Ashland took over as Jim Jeff ries returned the Eagle's punt 30 yards to the Eagle's 37, and Ted Tenny scored from the one yard line ten plays later. The next Ashland score come as Jeffries returned a punt to the Eagles 45, then on a pass from James to Richie Taylor put the ball on the Eagle Point 3. Taylor fumbled on the 8 but recovering the ball and be ing penalized twice set the Grizzlies back on the 13, but Jeffries broke away for the score and the half ended 19-0. The only Grizzly score of the third quarter came as Ashland went to the Eagle Point 4 yard line where James fumbled, and Eagle Point recovered on the 1 and was forced to punt where Jeffries returned it to the 29. A penalty against Eagle Point set the ball on the 14, and Ted Tenny went across four plays later. The fifth touchdown came S.A.A. PLANS SPORTS DAY G.A.A. is expecting games with Medford, Crater, Grants Pass, and other Southern Ore gon high schools on a sports- day basis. The main game will be basketball, and there will al so be games of volley ball. Last year G.A.A. did not have any scheduled games al though during basketball sea son, they played two games with the girls of Southern Ore gon College, winning one and losing one. Points shall be given to mem bers of G.A.A. for each sport in which they participate after school hours. Points of 10 pos- Fighting Grizzlies Outscore Comets The Ashland High Grizllies cinched the Southern division title of district 6 A-2 last Fri day night by beating Crater high Comets of Central Point 26 to 7. It was a hard fought contest all the way. Crater made their only touchdown on an exchange of fumbles. On five plays, four fumbles were picked up by the opposing team. Gordon Carri gan, a halfback, snatched a Ted Tenny bobble in mid-air and raced 59 yards unmolested to score standing up. Taking the ball on the 5, Kenna Gan dee passed to Walt McCoy in the end zone, and the extra point was made on a quarter back sneak by Kenna Gandee. The last score came as Ted Tenny intercepted a pass on the Eagle Point 24 and ran all the way and the game ended 38-0. The Grizzlies' first score came just at the end of the first quarter. Ashland took the ball on the Crater 42 and it took them 12 plays to make the score. Richie Taylor, who play ed his best game of the year. drove over from the six inch line. Clyde James kicked the extra point. Ashland's second touchdown came just before the end of the half. Blackie Mitchell recover ed a Comet fumble on the Griz zly's 40 and after six plays, Wayne South carried the ball over from the 2 yard line. The third quarter was more or less a seesaw with neither team going anywhere in par ticular. However when the quarter ended, the ball was on the Crater 33. Ted Tenny made the third score on a 21 yard run around right end. James' attempt for the extra point was no good. As the game neared the end, Tenny intercepted a Comet pass and returned it 6 yards to the Crater 49. After a series of five plays, Mel Taylor easily carried the ball over from the 3. The Grizzlies completely outflashed the Comets to get the last point, James stood back with Tenny as if to try another kick; but the ball was snapped to Richie Taylor, who went through the middle of the Crater line without them knowing about it. Crater tried 11 passes, but only three were good. James attempted three for Ashland. Iu the first quarter the Coug ars scored first as Pickle picked up an Ashland fumble on his own 42 yard line and lateraled to Barton who went all the way. The conversion was no good. Then with ten minutes remaining in the first quarter, Richie Taylor went over after a drive from 42 yards out, and the score was 6-6. Ashland's second score came as a blocked Cougar punt was downed. Runs by Mel Taylor and Ted Tenny put the ball on the five and Richie Taylor and Ted Tenny put the ball on the five and ,or scored Jason Wilson, in Richie Taylor scored. Clyde James' kick was good and the Grizzlies went out in front 20-13. But on two passes the Cougars were again threat ening on the Grizzly eight. Plumlee scored and the kick was no good as the half ended 20-19. In the third quarter Ted Tenny went over from the four after the Grizzlies had marched 6 1 yards downfield and the score was 26-19.
