Happiest Time
Bzzzz! At last, he seven-minute
bell' School is almost out.
Outside, the lun is shining and
the birds are singing. Inside,
the teachers are talking and the
students are sleeping well,
just a tew.
In Junior English, the stu
dents rouse themselves, stretch,
and return to their usual pros
trate positions, except Ann Col
ley, who prepurcs for her usual
race to the door, which she al
ways wins. Across the hall in
Social Econ.I Mr. Lewis stealth
ily pulls out his little gavel and
without warning, hits the desk
with a reverberating crack
the shock treatment for curing
dozing seniors.
In the typing room the steno
girls, finished for the day. pass
on the latest gossip, while down
stairs in the girls' dressing
room, Judy Briggs, Pat Austin
and Sandy Clary frantically
comb their hair.
In chemistry class, the junior
Einsteins pour their smelly con
coctions down the drain, and at
tempt to clean up the mess they
have made. Ann Williamson and
Helen Bean are through first,
because they make the least
mess. In study hall, a few kids
have already left, and the rest
quietly move to the back of the
room, one seat at a time.
Every day in art class, the
only person who stays inside the

them U'a little '36 Ford coupe.
Last year it was navy blue, with
twin aerials, bars on the hood,
and roaring straight pipes. This
year everyone thought there was
a new car on the campus. With
a grey primer Job, removal of
one aerial and the bars, and a
"Continental" spar tite, John
ny Wenker. the owner, has
reallv "customized" The Beast!
It was only recognized by the
same roaring straight pipes.
Johnny has spent much money
on tickets for these pipes, but
since he joined the Road
Knights, had his car inspected,
and received his plaque, he
hasn't been cited. This club is
backed by the state police and
all cars have to be checked and
be at least "almost" legal!
Since the beginning of this
school year, Johnny has put
three new motors in the car
they were new to the car, any
way. He didn't have too much
luck with the first two, though.
He has also added five white
walls, that Continental. The six
inch shackles have been there
since he first got the car. but
the two sandbags in the trunk
have been added. He is especial- I
ly proud of the grill panels on
front. "Max," as his friends call
him, once said he wouldn't give
his auto to his .worst enemy
but it's pretty obvious he'll miss
it when he sells it and gets his
dream car a '49 Mercury.

Bzzzz! There's the last bell. In
30 seconds the rooms are empty,
and the teachers wonder at the
sudden quiet, as another school
day ends.
What are you doing the last

Fads and Fashions
Seems like the females of to
day are coming to look more
and more like animals as far as
haircuts are concerned. Many
girls now have either a horse
tail or poodle cut hair-do. But
orre thing is certain they can't
have both!
Some believe the horsetail is
less expensive, for a girl with
a poodle cut must have her hair
cut every few months or it is no
longer a poodle cut. For a horse
tail, the longer the hair the bet
ter will be the horse tail.
Colette Perrine, Jessie
Mackie, Nancy Overand and
Nancy Graber are some of the
AHS girls often seen with horse
tails. Doris Mackie, Phyllis
NichoU;. Barbara Sweeney and
Judy Ward have, or have had,
poodle cuts.
Have you noticed the cute
clothes several of the kids have
been wearing since the coming
of spring weather? Be sure and
notice Carol Sullivan's beauti
ful white shorty coat, Verlene
Decker's yellow blouse with the
big sleeves, Wilna Calhoun's
sleeveless blouses, and Virginia
Shirley's gray pique dress.
Speaking of blouses, Judy Ward
wore a beautiful thin, white
nylon long-sleeved blouse the
Monday after Easter. Another
cute bit of spring fashion is Judy
Briggs' crinoline petticoat. Col
lette Perrine has a cute pair of
orange shoes, and Vida Childers
has pink sandals with nail pol
ish to match. Speaking of shoes,
you probably have already
I noticed Benny Fowler s brown
; and white Mcldles. Speaking of
boys clothes, Johnny Wenker
has a very nice-looking char
treuse shirt.
Skirts and sweaters for the
girls are almost a thing of the
past now, for they are all wear
ing bright spring dresses and
skirts and thin summery
blouses.

Bennie Fowler's car is minus

Talented Couple
Entertain Students
Joyce and Clyde Dupont,
"The Modernaires," National As
sembly sponsored entertainers
who appeared on Monday,
March 1, brought the student
body an enjoyable program of
music and comedy.
Joyce holds a Bachelor of
Arts degree from the University
of California. Joyce, who is also
a young actress, has entertained
USO groups and has appeared
in motion pictures, and on radio
and television.
Clyde for the last two years
has been personal piano accom
panist for Rudy Vallee. He has
a Bachelor of Arts and a Master
of Music degree from the Uni
versity of California. "
Clyde and Joyce's perform
ance was very well liked by the
students, and their humorous
songs and acts received a great
deal of applause. One of the
most humorous skits was "Casey
at the Bat," as told by Joyce
with piano accompaniment by
Clyde.
