With spring in the air and the sun shining every day (?), Irak
and bawball are the big things for the sport-minded studi-nt of A US.
The diamond sport has been susH-nded temorarily due to the rain,
but as soon as the field emergen, play will be resumed. In i-ir
first game the Grizzlies saiiiM"ii an outclassed Jacksonville nine
to the tune of 14-0. and, although everybody was aide to hit the
numerous J'Ville pitchers fairly easily, the game showed no outstav-i-ing
hitters for Ashland. Johnny Reedy, hurling for the Grizzlies,
kept the J'Ville team pretty well handcuffed, so there wasn't nmih
of a chance to get a sample of Ashland's fielding.
The track team has been working- hard all spring and, although
they were beaten by both Medford and G. P. in their first meet, they
showed lots of possibilities. Best prospect and biggest surprise in
the meet was Tad Gandee, stockily-built sophomore who captured
ten of Ashland's points by handily winning both the 100 and 220 yard
dashes. Bartlet looked good In the shotput event, while Mcrriman
made a nice showing in the 440. The next meet will probably be at
Medford this coming Saturday.
