In Astoria, track and lntra

They seem to be off to a good

YMCA as example of student

good, doesn't it ?

Seniors Decide Upon
No Flower Giftsr
At the April 17 meeting of the
senior class, a nearly unanimous
vote decided to rule that no flow
ers were to be presented or
brought by the public for gradua
tion exercises. Ballots for the
speaker at baccalaureate services
were acted upon but as yet have
not been counted.
Committees for senior week
will be under the general direction
of Marvin Get t ling. Gerald New
ton is chairman of the Hick Day
committee and those on the Gift
Committee are: Joan Neil, chair
man, Mouryne Burton, Barney
Riggs, and Claud Garrett.
Capitalists in the group were
wonderfully surprised at the re
port that approximate returns on
the Senior class play show a clear
profit of around 150. cartwheels.

In Red Cross Drive
With so many of our fathers,
brothers and friends in the armed
forces at sea and overseas ,the
Ashland students well know the
vital work of the American Red
Cross. With this in mind no en
couragement was needed for Ash
land students to support this
year's drive.
The Senior High School lead the
drive with a total of J140.54. Mr.
Simpson's sophomore boys A-K
should be commended for being
the first home room to fill their
quota and then to double it.
Junior High School, who usually
out shines every one In enthusi
asm, came in second with $102.71.
Lincoln School ran a close third
with $101.77, and Washington col
lected (64.50.
Several unique ideas were used
by the grade school students to
raise money for the drive.

Prom Prattle
The Prom (so I'm told) comes
but once a year. This may be
your first Prom, your last Prom,
your only Prom, or you might be
one of the tribe of proverbial
Promtrotters. Whichever it is, it
is one of the events of your life.
Boys please note: Look over all
of your delectable and promising
prospects and rush out . right
now and get a date. This is tne
deadline. The girls won't have any
fingernails left if this keeps on.
Oh, what Willi wear? That's the
all important question. The occa
casion calls for something dreami:
ly flowing. Can't you just picta:e
yourself - - yards of filmy sijit,
nlpped-in waist (if you're lucky),
all done up in your most flatter
ing shade. If you are vivid in per
sonality and coloring, why don't
you go in for something start
ling? You know what makes you
look especially drooly.
. You can have a perfect time at
a prom and still leave your foot
ball manners at home. Don t come

Boys, trade your dances before
you come, and be gallantly atten
tive to the girl friend. She'll love
you for it. Don't leave her side.
except to bring her punch and
cookies. And, by the way, gum
chewing is strictly taboo. Sorry,
that's how 'tis.
Hi-Y Entertains
Guests at Banquet
The Hi-Y club entertained fac
ulty and girl friends as guests at
31 banquet and dance Wednesday
evening. Even though several of
ficers and members were not
present, it was considered quite
a success.
The banquet consisted of meat
loaf,' salad and accessories. At
the close of the meal song leader
Jaxk Waybrant led the group in
several songs and the adult
gueats, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Robin
son.'Mr. and Mrs. L A. Mirick,
and Mrs. Koehler, gave brief
after dinner speeches .
At the next meeting a slam
session", in which members are
given information about their
faults in order to help them to
correct them, is to be held.
