Season's Sport Activities Are Seen in Final Review Girls Athletics for Year Cover All Major Fields Ashland Hlgb School suffered an unfortuante football season last fall. However, there were no serious Injuries resulting from the games. The basketball season was much better as tar as the scored were concerned. The Lithians won their share of games butj were unable to win the South ern Oregon basketball champion ship to represent our district in the state championship games at Salem. The basketball letters will be awarded today. To develop better sportsman ship a boxing tournament , was staged In the high school gym nasium. School championship was won by Dean Home, David Berg strom, Billy Bromley, Headrick Baughman. and Elmer Wlnkel man. Baseball season got away to a good start but was slowed up by the rain. Although Ashland lost both of the major games to Yre- ka High School, everyone has greatly enjoyed the game of swat and catch. Y. M. C. A. Tennis League Offers Real Competition vm irutuiiiicii There Is a slight rumor about a stadium being built In Ash land. It is to have a turf foot ball field and all the latest equipment, "they say." The girls' sport season has been ; replete with many activi ties. In the first series, speedball the Seniors, after several fast battles, took the school champ, ionship from the Sophomores. The second series, basketball proved to be one of the most Interesting sports of the season The very close championship game was finally won by the Seniors. The basketball season was climaxed with a sports spread which, of course, was "en joyed by all." Volley ball was especially memorable to the Sophomores who won two out of three cham pionship games. i Tumbling man unforgettable because of the stiffness and sore ness which resulted. Baseball was Just nicely start ed when it was temporarily post poned so that more time mipht be given to the stunt show. An advanced clogging class has been maintained for most nf the year. Also an Interpretative dancing class was organized by a few girls who despaired of ever becoming graceful otherwise. The (J. A. A. put on several stunts, too, for the assembly he sides other activities. The expressed desire is to do more in the way of sports next year. More tennis players are pop ping up every day to ply the trade of racket and ball. Play ing space is hard to find, and usually the courts are full and running over. Mr. Wagner has taken steps to have rules made for regulation of the use of the courts. Girls' tennis tournament is under way and a new ladder has been established for the boys. It looks like a big season for tennis. Dr. W.E. This Is a world's record. E. U. (Dick), Romney, famous athletic coach at the Utah Agri cultural College, has been asked to turn In his resignation as athletic director. Lack of support on the part of students and townspeople Is the reason for the request. Fall Football Prospects Many and Interesting Only twice In the history of the Pacific Coast Baseball league has the season opened on April 4. On both occasions the Portland Beavers were defeated by the San Francisco Seals by the score of 2-0. Shed tear, all ye golfers, for Harold Vetch of Briarcliff, Ore gon! He got hole-in-one a few Sundays ago but was play ing alone. Several persona saw the shot but could not be called eye witnesses. Coach Faber has 20 different athletic letters to his credit. Ashland High School will be able to look forward to a win ning football team next year. Although Coach Faber will lose several good men by graduation, there will be several returning with last year's experience. Some of them will be Darrell Sleloff, Ivan. Keeney, Willie Durham, Headrick Baughman, Robert Hardy, Harvey Gearhart, . Carl Fehige, and Buster Newhouse. The tentative schedule is as follows: Sept. 16 McCloud, tentative Sept. 23 Dunsmuir, tentative Sept. 30 Yreka, here Oct. 7 Roseburg, tentative Oct. 14 Lakeview, here Oct. 21 Grants Pass, here Oct. 28 Crescent City, tentative Nov. 4 Weed, here Nov. 11 K. Falls, there Nov. 18 Yreka, here Nov. 24 K. Falls, here Nov. 30 Medford, here Jack Dempsey fought a total of thirty-eight minutes while he was the heavyweight champion, earning over $2,500,000.
