Team Closes 1933 Season
Although their defeat out'
numbered their wins, the Ash
land High school's basketball
season as, generally speaking,
successful'. Coach Faber had to
work with the smallest team in
the conference, therefore it Is
believed he is due considerable
credit for the excellent games
r-'s boys played.
Th-? Lithians took an unex
pected win over tb.3 Grants Pass
Cavemen on their home floor.
Ai;hland led throughout the
game, finally winning 17-33. The
Lithians won one out of three
rnnKs from the strong Klamath
Fa'ls High School team. Kla
r rth was the only team in the
conference to defeat Medford.
feveral trams in the secondary
conference furnished Ashland
High's squad with good compe
tition in preparation for the
Lithians important games.
Ashland lost the opening game
of this year's season to Yreka by
the close score of 21-22. The last
came of the season with the
winner of the district champion
ship, Medford, was lost by a
score of 30-10. This was after
a serious defeat from Medford
earlier In the season. A good

season.

Brings Out Tennis Rackets
Tennis season is here again
acording to the racquets that
ar3 appearing and the activities
seen on the courts. This goes to
show that the good old tennis
bug's bite is hard to resist.
Coach Faber lias started a
ladder among the hoys Interested
In the game, to determine thos
that are eligible to form a ten
nis team. It Is his plan to hav
Inter-school games with Grant:
Pass, Medford, and, if possibl"
Klamath Falls. Although Ash
land hasn't turned out a tennii
team for some time. Coach Fab')
Hers no reason why we can't hav
one if the fellows show enough
spirit and willingness to work to
form an excellent team. Becausi
of the weather the tennis fiends
will have to wait, but good days
are yet ahead.

Sens Are Again Planning
Invita'ional Tournament
Ashland Is again the scene of
an Invitational basketball tourn
ament. Near sixty schools were
v'.ted to attend the glamorous
affair which Is staged annually
by the Southern Oregon Normal
School.
These tournaments, in past
vears, have proved to be a suc
cess, and this year is to ba nr
exception. There are several
strong secondary schools competing.
All the girls are looking for
ward to the annual Play Day
which Is to be held In Ashland
soon. Last year, the Medford
girls were hostesses for the
event. This year, we arc to have
Medford here, and all of the
games are to be played in tho
water. This is quite a new idea,
and committees already working
on this event to make it suc
cessful. The girls promise thrills
for the visitors on this day.
Thera will be lied and Whit
teams, with both Medford and
Ashland girls on each team. This
is done to encourage friendship
among the girls. G. A. A. rirls

Refreshments will also be ser

Eva Landing will act as chair
man of the committee.

An Early Season Practice
Spring football has become the
big thing in sport circles this
year. Ashland High will be no
exception. Coach Don Faber is
going to organize a spring foot
ball team In, order to give the
boys the necessary experience
which they lacked last season
A number of new boys turning
out for this sport will strengthen
Ashland High's lineup for next
fall.

Parker Hess, galloping sopho

to be one of the mainstays in
the baseball lineup, will be out
most of the season because of a
fractured arm received in bas
ketball practice.
Billle Hoxie, who occupied the

Students have welcomed to
the faculty, recently, a new rom

a month.
Mrs. White, being a graduate
of the Ashland High school, and
having also taught here before,
is quite well acquainted. When
Interviewed by a Rogue News
reporter, she said that she feels
perfectly at home in Ashland
High.
Besides her commercial work.
Mrs. White has a class in senior
reviews. She returned to her
present duties upon the resig
nation of Miss Beck (Mrs. Hic-

The new teacher tells us that
she is very fond of fishing and
that she enjoys getting back in
school again.

With only one man back from
last year's track team, the pros

slim. A meeting was called last
Wednesday night for those In

are yet rather indefinite.
Coach Faber has not expressed
himself definitely, but he has
said that a better turnout
students for this sport is de
