Into Sportlight
Ashland high's track end field
tan collected a season total of
20 1-2 points in the Klamath
Falls and Grants Pass meets. As
this was the first track team en
tered In outside competition for
several years, the team shonld
be commended on the creditable
showing that was made.
Clyde Dunham was high point
man of the squad, collecting ten
points In the two meets. Clyde
won first place in the broad
Jump. at Klamath Falls with a
span of 20 feet 2 inches. At the
Grants Pass meet, he placed sec
ond In the 220 and fifth In broad
Jump. Dunham was awarded a
bronze placque at Klamath Falls
nnd a silver medal at Grants
Pass. Benjamin Goidle ited for
first place tn the high Jump at I
5 feet 8 inches in the Klamath
meet and placed fifth at Grants
Pass, collecting a total of six
points. Eruest Wallin tied for
fourth place in the pole vault
at Grants Pass and was awarded
one and a half .points. Hubert
Anderson placed fifth In the
half-mile at Klamath and added
one point to his team's total. En
tries In the two meets were as
follows:

The team Journeyed to Grants
Pass, April 23, and suffered a ,
bad defeat. Because of rain the
game was called, and Ashland
went home with two defeats
against her. The fellows making .
the trip were Newell Elliott.!
Bernard Applegate, Kenneth
Darling, and Bob Yeo.
If the weather permits the
fellows will probably play Kla
math Falls and Medford. I
smashing, blusging bout, Harvey
Gearhaxt and Billy Bromley
went four rounds to a draw.
"Buck" Spencer and Eddie
Decker boxed a four-round draw
in the curtain raiser.
Wilber Suerby: "I've got to
do some sprint; cleaning on my
car."
Darrel Sieloff: "I didn't know

Howard Abel, local lightweight
boxer, punched his way to an
easy technical knockout victory
over "PiJ" Smith, 130 pounds,
in the fifth round of a scheduled
six-round bout at the Yeoman
Hall Wednesday, April 20. Smith
wa3 a badly beaten boxer when
his handlers stopped the fight.
In a four-round semi-wind-u?,
Sheldon Page substituted for
"Sonny" Mansfield and slugged
his way to a draw with Carl
Stewart.
Headrlck Baughman. Ashland
High student paved his way to
some "big shots" when he got a
four-round draw with Harry
Hoxie. The two will be re-matched.

About 60 girls, dressed In
rompers, cavorted about the
Medford high play ground and
gym, April 30, in the first Med
ford -Ashland Play day. The af
fair was arranged by Miss Car
rie Degermark, Medford High
physical education Instructor,
and Miss Mary Magoon of the
Ashland department.
The day'a schedule included
four sport contests for each team
basball, stunts and relays,
volley ball, and quoit tennis.
There were eight color teams.
At noon lunch was eaten in
the cafeteria, after which there
was a program of stunts, put on
by the different groups and the
teachers, who staged a gum
chewing number.
At the end of the day each
team's points were added to
make a final score. The black
team was highest with 169
points, the green team close with
