SPORTS
Weed-Ashland Game
The Grizzlies hung the first
football scalp of the season in
the Ashland High wickiup when
they defeated Weed on the home
field with a score of 24 to 0.
The game was a well played
example of Iwhat a determined
group of boys can do, no matter
how inexperienced. The Weed
lumberjacks didn't have a chance
against the superior playing tac
tics of the Blissful Lithlans. Ex
cept for a little flash of Weed
line power in the first quarter
the game was a march down the
field tor Ashland.
The men scoring were Gosnell
and Howell. Each made two
touchdowns. Dunham, in the
backfield, made fifty ipercent of
the yardage and was the fly In
the ointment for Weed. The of
ficials were Clyde Young and
Coach Rogers as referees and
Bert Miller and Casey Nichol
son at timekeepers.

quarter, Heads and Dunham
halves, and Gosnell at full back.
These men are all lettermen and
fast. The reserve backs are Gear
hart, Tage, and Durham.
The line is a different matter,
having only two lettermen. How-
all and Ulrich. Parks, however,
reveals a real tackling ability.
Other linemen wbo seem to have
the stuff in them are Esk ridge
Lennox, Sneed, Smith. Wolcott,
Yeo, Hall, Newhouse, Johnson,
Darling, and Sieloff, who does
good work as pivot man.

Yreka-Ashland Game
The second and hardest pre
conference game came when Ash
land defeated Yreka on the home
field to the tune of 7 to 0. The
-a me was a good showing of two
- ell-matched teams fighting
rut. Ashland's machinery of plays
was working out much better
than In the showing made with
Weed. Yreka had been set up as
a hard, tough, and bearded squad
of old timers, but Ashland man

ham intercepted a pass and ran
sixty yards for a touchdown. The
score was converted by Mabbot.
The Yrekans threatened our goal
once or twice but they were un
able to get through.
Gosnell, the miniature all
American fullback, scored heavy
yardage against the Californians.
Almost every play of the third
and fourth quarters went to him.
The gang is showing better and

SOtVER
Soccer practice started this
week headed by Miss Magoon
The turn-out numbered twenty-
eight girls from all classes, while
last year there were enough for
three teams. The Juniors, so far
have the largest turnout of thir
teen. This year it is necessary
for all of the girls to pass a chy
plcal examination before they can
participate in any sports.
There will be about five or
six weeks of practice, lasting un
til the last of October, and each
girl is required to have ten practices.
