While notoriously conversative, Oregon
State University is showing some signs of
change for LGBTQ students and staff.
The Daily Barometer recently announced
that Associated Students of OSU (ASOSU)
officially expressed their support for same-
sex marriage, asking the feds to recognize
these unions.
Days earlier the student paper featured fra-
ternity man Dan Cushing, a candidate for
ASOSU's VIce President spot (he won by the
way), who came out not just to his fraternity
brothers at Signma Phi Epsilon, but to the
whole campus.
And the university just hired a new Director
of LGBT Outreach and Services, Jeff Kenney.
Originally from Nebraska, Kenney is a spe-
cialist in Queer student support services.

Down
IN EARLY JUNE A 3-JUDGE PANEL IN THE
FIRST CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEALS UNANI-
MOUSLY UPHELD A U.S. DISTRICT COURT
DECISION FINDING THE DEFENSE OF
MARRIAGE ACT (DOMA) UNCONSTITU-
TIONAL.
THIS ACTION BRINGS THE ISSUE OF MAR-
RIAGE EQUALITY ONE STEP CLOSER TO A
SUPREME COURT RULING.
DOMA IS STILL BEING ENFORCED, DESPITE
THE COURT'S ACTION.
DOMA PREVENTS SAME SEX COUPLES IN
ALL 50 STATES, DESPITE THEIR OWN STATE
LAWS THAT MAY ALLOW THESE COUPLES
TO MARRY, FROM ACCESSING FEDERAL
MARRIAGE RIGHTS.
OREGON'S STATE CONSTITUTION ALSO
INCLUDES DISCRIMINATORY LANGUAGE
AGAINST SAME SEX MARRAIGE.
ON A RELATED NOTE: BASIC RIGHTS OR-
EGON IS SPENDING THE SUMMER TRAV-
ELING TO COMMUNITIES AROUND THE
STATE TO "EXPAND OUR MAJORITY FOR
MARRAIGE IN OREGON."
