Capitol Pride
Pride comes to Oregon’s capital city Sat
urday, August 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at
Cascades Gateway Park (2100 SE Turner
Road) in Salem. Organizers plan for a
crowd of 800 to wade through the smatter
ing of vendors and informational booths.
“We have more food booths than we
have ever had and more vendor booths sell
ing things, so it will be a good time,” says
Chuck Simpson, secretary of the Capitol
Pride board.
Entertainment for the day includes per
formances by the Kate Sullivan Band, J ot
hanna Beekman, RADD and Devitto P.
Adm ission is free. For more inform ation,

Multicultural Event
The Umatilla Morrow Alternatives’Mul
ticultural Event in Hermiston isn’t a Pride,
per se. It’s less a celebration for sexual mi
norities and more a celebration of minori
ties in general.
“Billing it as a multicultural event is our
way of saying we understand our [county’s
general] community is way in the dark in
terms of GLBT acceptance,” says organizer
Darrell Alston.
Performers include Bent, Native Amer-
ican dancers and the Mexican dance
troupe Bailadores del Sol, Portland musi
cian Joaquin Lopez and several local
groups. The event will be held August 6,
from noon to 5 p.m. at McKenzie Park
(320 S. First St.).
