Doin’ the Neutrino Dance Im prov Project returns to C urious C om e d y for cin e m a -o n -sta g e experim ent Picture it: a short film crafted on the spot, off the cuff, just for you. No really, picture it. That’s the premise o f the Portland Neutrino Project, an improv evening in which three groups, each with a camera, cast and tape run ner, shoot scenes inspired by that night’s audience suggestions. Said tape runner brings completed scenes back to the theater, and the crowd witnesses the film unfolding as it’s being shot: dailies reviewed in real,, reel time, if you will. First launched in New York City, the project has traveled to cities throughout the United States. Casts o f the latest Portland installment include Curious Comedy Theater players and guests from the metro area and beyond, and audiences are encouraged to bring “interesting” objects with which to provide the teams “inspiration." In other words, it’s time to clean out the garage. In Curious Comedy and Co.’s capable hands, who knows what narrative greatness will be come o f that banged-up old Lite-Brite, first generation George Fore man Grill or pastoral Thomas Kinkade print your meemaw gave you as a graduation gift back in ’92? By freeing the players from the constraints o f the stage, and even the theater itself, the camera blows the possibilities for hilarity wide open. Watch your back, Portlandia , we may just put a bridge on it. For newbies to the magic o f improv and vets alike, the Portland Neu trino Project is don’t miss— and can’t-miss—entertainment. Film at 8, fun at 8:01. Aug. 5-Sept. 3, 8 p.m., doors at 7:30; Curious Comedy Theater, 5225 N E Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.; $12 advance, $15 door; 503-477-9477 or curiouscomedy. org.
