Jose Israel lived his life to the fiillest, enjoy
ing time with family and friends, and never for
getting to tell people how much he loved them.
This was the gift he brought to everything he
did. It reminded people of what matters most
and to enjoy their time together.
In 2006, he became a founding member of
Portland Latino Gay Pride (PLGP). Sharing
stories of past experiences, he brought up “mari-
posa/butterfly” as a term he had been called. The
“mariposa” is often used in Spanish as a nega
tive reference to someone gay. PLG P decided
to transform this to a positive and empowering
image. It became the official symbol o f the or
ganization, thanks to Jose Israel.
His continued involvement with PLGP
was critical to the growth and success of each
celebration. He reminded us of the need to
reach out to all segments o f the community, to
entertain, and o f the positive difference PLGP
was making in the community.

David Henry
Weber (Butch)
February 22, 1946-June 20, 2011
David Henry Weber, 65 years old at the time
of his passing, was a native Oregonian. He died
at home in Molalla on June 20 of natural causes.
David was born on February 22, 1946
in Portland to David and Frances Weber of
Montavilla. He moved to Oahu, Hawaii in the
late ‘70s and moved back to Oregon upon his
retirement in 2010. He had one sister, Patricia
Browning o f LaFollette,Tenn. and a half Broth
er, Edwin Weber of San Francisco, Calif.
David was a certified diving instructor and
worked in the diving industry during his 26
years on Oahu. Previously he lived in Portland
and worked for TWA, Bell Telephone and as
a bartender at Dahl & Penny’s in downtown
Portland. He loved to shop and collected vari
ous Oriental trinkets. He also loved music and
old mystery movies.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia Brown
ing o f LaFollette, Tcnn.; one niece, Sherry
Abraham o f Colton, Ore.; a nephew, Michael
Browning o f Union Star, Mo.; and two cousins
in Salem, Ore. David was preceded in death by
his parents and half brother.
