The crux of his videos is simple: “I put it
in my mouth and I tell you all about it.”
Four episodes are online, with a fifth in
stallment on the way. “It started with me
wanting to do a queer and trans and fat
positive show that was all about food and
eating,” he explains.
Having lived in Portland for a total of
six and a half years, Riot, who is trans and
has been out for a decade, recently em
barked on a life-changing adventure. He
used to work in a private dental office for
what he says was a “homophobic and
transphobic boss.”
“He thought I was a straight lady named
Wyatt,” Riot says. And so, “I quit my job
six months ago,” he admits. “It was at this
point where I was like, ‘W hat am I doing?
I wake up everyday and I’m not happy
about where I’m going.’”
Riot decided to go walkabout. “I hate

as much as possible.”
Riot spent the winter touring various
parts of the United States. He started in
Burlington, Vt. and made his way to Mon
treal, Toronto, New York City, Philadel
phia, and eventually back to Portland.
Riot found himself doing numerous odd
jobs in his journeys to get by.
“I stripped paint, cleaned toilets, picked
weeds. I’ve punched people. I’ve cleaned
strangers’ houses.”
Yes, punched people. “I learned to make
$50 by punching and getting punched in
New York,” he reveals. “I had a punching
booth at [queer party] Rebel Cupcake. I
could punch you for a $1, you could punch
me for $5.”
Whether pulling punches or not, ulti
mately, Riot keeps coming back home. “I’m
very happy [here],” he says. “I also like
leaving Portland and coming back.”

tennis teams, you might have figured we’re,
well, maxed out. Figure again—and Port
land’s only LGTBQ_ soccer group, the
Portland NetRippers Football Club
(NRFC), is here to prove just that. The
organization recently announced a sum
mer filled with competitive, recreational
soccer, commtinity involvement, socializ
ing and some big-time tournaments. Cur
rently, the 100-plus-member club hosts
weekly open scrimmages and practices,
and the NRFC has been hosting competi
tive soccer teams since 2006.
Enthusiastic member Miguel Villarreal
offers this brief history of the NRFC:
