O No
To the E ditor :
The Sunday evening [May 29] “Holding
Hands Across Hawthorne Bridge” was a won
derful gathering of LGBT people, showing en
thusiasm, good cheer, solidarity and heart
warming spirit.
It is interesting, if not a bit astounding, that
the illustrious Oregonian newspaper has nothing
in this morning’s edition [May 30].
Checking their website at 6:30 a.m. today,
more silence on this event.
Perhaps their mission statement doesn’t cover
LGBT people?
We know though, as does any minority, that
silence only leads to more abuse, and more
violence.
Liberté, égalité, fraternité,

Axe to Grind?
To the E ditor :
My partner brought home the May 20th is
sue, and even though Just Out helped us decide
to move to Portland in 2002, as we grew familiar
with the city and its politics, we became less
comfortable with Just Out [Vol. 28, No. 12, Page
3, “Missed Opportunities”].
Hopeful that your very obvious disdain for the

mayor might by now be less of an obsession with
you, I began reading.
So much for hope.
You ask why you are no longer printing the
Pride Guide. I really don’t know. All I know is
that the Mercury long ago replaced Just Out as
my choice for Pride information. I can trust its
journalistic viewpoint. It seems Marty Davis has
an axe that she grinds that overwhelms any sense
of proportion and invalidates any feeling of trust
for her integrity.
I don’t condone our mayor’s lack of judgment,
I’m not certain that I’ll vote for him.
One thing is sure, continuing to bitch and
snark at every opportunity means that I won’t
read Just Out when I need a reasoned discussion
of issues. I’m not sure that the pages will ever
contain anything except Marty Davis’ unwaver
ing cavil.
Sincerely,
