Italian Done Right
Sometime after July, the current Milwaukie
home of DaVinci s Ristorante Italiano will be
leveled to accommodate a new MAX line,
which should probably concern Heather Mo-
latore, Da Vinci’s owner. The truth is, her mind’s
precisely where it should be— on her food.
W hile a new location will weigh heavier
on Molatore’s mind soon enough— she and
wife Felicia plan on staying in Milwaukie—
she’s more focused on maintaining the high
standards that have made her tenure at DaV-
inci’s a successful one.
Molatore bought Da Vinci’s in 2009 from
the previous owners of 17 years. W ith a
background as executive chef at various res
taurants, as well as a degree from Portland’s
Western Culinary Institute, she upped the
ante when transitioning into her new digs.
“There’s so much you can do with Italian
food, but there’s so much you can't do with
Italian food,” Molatore explains. “W hen I
found out Da Vinci’s was for sale, I knew it
had a huge clientele. I knew I was going to
change some things and it wasn’t going to be
what people were expecting.”
First on that list was ensuring that as much
product was obtained as locally as possible.
“A lot more things are homemade,” Mola
tore says. “I want people to feel like they’re
supporting not just me but another little
company somewhere down the line.”
W hat’s more, Molatore’s culinary creations
are reasonably priced—she tries to not have
any dish top the $20 mark.
At the end of the day, she explains, it really
is all about the customer.
“I take pride in my food and my employees
take pride in it, and I think that’s what keeps
people coming back,” Molatore says. “We’re
