Theatre Company. Sounds like a perfect fit for Bag 6c

There are shapeshifters—Madonna, the supernatural
creatures from True Blood,}oan Rivers—and then there
are shapeshifters. Take The Mystery of Irma Vep, a Goth
com (Gothic comedy, but of course) tinged with Victo­
rian melodrama, classic film (think Rebecca) and conven­
tional theater. Charles Ludlam’s Obic and Drama Desk
award-winning play, running May 13-29 at Hillsboro’s
Bag and Baggage Theatre, casts two actors in eight dif­
ferent roles, in what makes for an identity crisis of the
trippiest order.
The plot concerns the titular lady, late mistress of
Mandacrest Manor and friend of the occult. Her linger­
ing presence vexes the new gal of the house, former ac­
tress Lady Enid, and its staff, to say nothing of the wolf
lurking about the estate. BScB director Patrick Spike
describes the Hitchcock-meets- Wuthering Heights-
meets-Poe-meets-Shakespeare scenario as an homage,
“all thrown in a blender on frappc funny. It’s melodrama,
drag, mystery and a bit of magical mayhem, all from
merely two actors changing costumes like lightning.”
The original 1984 production featured Ludlam and his
lover as the assorted characters and, in order to ensure
