In Other Words Feminist Community Center transforms into a colorful medium of woman-centered events and activities when it celebrates the 36th Annual Port­ land International Women’s Day observance Wednesday, March 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. Speakers include Third Wave Foundation founder Amy Richards; trans activist, spo­ ken word performer and author of Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity Julia Serano; and Bitch co-founder and editorial director Andi Zeisler. The event is a fundraiser to support the feminist activities at In Other Words, and a suggested donation of J5-S10 will be accepted at the door. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. “Success for LIFE,” a fundraiser for Mercy Corps N W ’s Lifelong Information for Entrepreneurs (LIFE) program will be held Saturday, March 12 at the Mercy Corps offices (45 SW Ankeny St.). Through LIFE, women prisoners at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville, Ore. learn important skills for life, business and prosocial behavior. LIFE aims to success­ fully reintegrate formerly incarcerated indi­ viduals back into the community and help to establish self-sufficiency and economic stability.
