“Radical" and "Salacious"
Happenings
look at the beginnings of a subculture o f fe­
male musicians, journalists and historians.
Featuring Kathleen Hanna, Melissa York,
Kim Coletta and others, the film now acts as
more of a historical document, and a fine fo­
cus on the small steps that eventually led to a
worldwide legacy of women who rock. Radical
Act screens at 7 p.m. January 13.

Hip Chicks Host Soup Cook­
off for Esther's Pantry

party for brand new literary and erotic art mag
Salacious from 7 to 9 p.m.There is a $1 -$5 sug­
gested donation; the event is 18 and over.

• For film and music buffs, the Reel Music
Film Festival is something o f a utopic under­
taking. This year’s 28th annual fest promises
to peel hack the layers of some o f the most
enigmatic and influential artists o f the last
50-plus years, exposing all that despair and
those politically charged motivations.
W hile most of these flicks will be screened
at the W hitsell Auditorium in the Portland
Art Museum January 7-18, you might not
want to miss out on one o f the more bally-
hooed pairings just across town at the Mission
Theater. Screening with Search and Destroy:

with their Soup Cook-off and fundraiser for
Esther’s Pantry Saturday, January 15.
The Beat the W inter Blues Fundraiser be­
gins with the Soup Cook-off at 4 p.m. at the
winery (4510 SE 23rd Ave.), with judges and
prizes in a lighthearted culinary competition,
peppered by the always entertaining emcee
prowess of Poison Waters. Cooking and tasting
for this portion of the fundraiser runs from 4 to
6 p.m., and should you be so inclined as to
throw your stock in the pot, applications for the
cook-off can be obtained by emailing winegod-
dess@hipchicksdowine.com.
Stick around for the acoustic stylings of
Galynne Davis from 6 to 9 p.m. Bring your
non-perishable food or hygiene items for Es­
ther’s Pantry for $5 off o f the $15 admission,
which includes a tasting o f six wines and
appetizers.
