BecvTown is an annual weekend bear
run organized and held by Oregon
Bears, Inc. This event began in 1996 as
‘‘Beards and Roses" when the very first
Mr. Oregon Bear contest was held. In
2002, to avoid confusion with the
annual Portland Rose Festival and to
be more inclusive, the event’s name,
‘‘Beards and Roses," was officially
changed to "BearTown."
A new theme is introduced every year
giving each year's BearTown event a
unique character. The theme for this
year's BearTown 15 is GROWL.
Shedding inhibitions and releasing inner
beasts is what this year's weekend is all
about!

One of the Oregon Bears' largest an­
nual fundraisers, the BearTown week­
end focuses its sights on a local GLBTQ
charity. This year's beneficiary, the Port­
land Q Confer, is committed to increas­
ing the visibility of and fostering con­
nections within metropolitan Portland's
GLBTQ community. The center also
builds public awareness and support,
and celebrates GLBTQ diversity through
art, culture, and collaborative commu­
nity programming.

The Oregon Bears is a fraternal, social
and service organization committed to
organizing events and activities that
provide for the social enjoyment and
camaraderie of its members, as well as
providing resources (financial and other­
wise) to selected charitable organiza­
tions. Though the Bear Movement is
primarily based on an easy going and
natural definition of gay masculinity. The
Oregon Bears has always been inclusive
and welcomes individuals from all walks
of life. Founded in November 1995 with
just 13 members, it has now grown to
over 490 members and is one of the
largest Bear clubs in the nation.

The Juplfer Hofei is proud to be the
BearTown host hotel for the second year
in a row. This mid-century, renovated
motor-inn-turned-boutique-hotel
located in the midst of shops and
restaurants (check out the famous Doug
Fir), is just minutes away from Downtown
Portland, and w ill serve as the home
base and main venue for this year’s
event.

fun and charitable giving. Please enjoy
your BearTown experience and I hope
you create some lasting memories.
While you’re enjoying yourself, please
remember we’re also raising money for
Portland’s Q Center. I’d like to also
thank our 2009 titleholders Andy Moffat
and Marcus Macleod for their year of
hard work and dedication and extend
