A BRIGHT PINK SPECTACULAR
When it comes to Pink Martini, what
new is there to say? They’ve consistently
thrilled listeners worldwide with their
diverse vintage-world-jazz sound for
over 15 years. Are you anxious for a more
formal way to see them than just stalking
Thomas Lauderdale? You’ll want to hit
their fabulous and festive New Year’s Eve
Spectacular, December 31 at the Arlene
Schnitzer Concert Hall.
The shows will feature members of
the Harvey Rosencrantz Orchestra, who
have contributed their big band sheen to
several Pink Martini albums in the past.
Also spotlighted will be the Tsunami
Singers of the Pacific Youth Choir—
whom you may recognize from their
residency at Grace Episcopal Cathedral.
Numerous surprise guests and, no doubt,
a local celebrity or five will lend star
power and keep attendees on the edge of
their seats to greet the new year.
Pink Martini’s fourth studio album,
Splendor in the Grass, takes the pop lounge
vibes to new heights. Suave and cohesive,
the album pulls off being upbeat without
being saccharine, sultry without excessive
cheese—all and all, a sonic miracle. It’s
easy on the ears, sure, but Pink Martini
is easy listening with a heart, a brain, and
very sharp teeth.
The smooth grooves roll into the
Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037
SW Broadway on Thursday, December
31. The early show begins at 7 p.m., and
the late show from 10:30 to when the
ball drops on 2010. Tickets are $20 bal
cony, $30 mezzanine, $40 floor, and $75
Golden Circle and Dress Circle Balcony.
Tickets are available online through
Ticketmaster or through any Ticket
master outlet, including the PCPA Box
Office (503-248-4335).

clips from the critically hailed Splendor
in the Grass —check out www.pinkmar-
