Where to take the whole family for a fun night? If it’s Thursday, December 17, you’ll want to bring everyone down to the GLBT audience night perfor mance of Bag & Baggage Production’s A Christmas Carol, at Hillsboro’s classic Ve netian Theatre! “Our Christmas Carol is vintage Bag &. Baggage,” says Maggie Chapin, who reprises her roles as Christmas Present, Fan, and The Turkey Girl. “It relies on physical humor, slapstick, and wordplay, all combined with holiday music and new writing. It is not only funny and slightly tongue-in-cheek, but it is also very moving and great for families.” Bag & Baggage’s adaptation, courtesy of Artistic Director Scott Palmer, places Charles Dickens as a character onstage. “That was the spark,” explains author Palmer. “W hat would happen if the audi ence were locked in Dickens’ office with him, while he was writing the story, and got a chance to see Dickens himself argu ing and bantering with the characters as he created them?” The result is at times hysterical, other times touching, and con sistently a heartfelt and fiercely original take on the classic. The GLBT audience night keeps the holiday fun going after the curtain falls with an intimate gather ing in the theater lobby bar. As if free hors d’oeuvres and fancy drink specials weren’t enough, the reception will allow audiences to mingle with the cast, crew and all man ner of festively interesting people. Can’t cart the family down to the GLBT night performance? The show runs December 9-22 at 7:30 p.m. nightly, with additional Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Check out Bag & Baggage’s website for dates and ticket prices, and consider attending one of two benefit shows: Thursday, December 10 benefits the Children’s Dental Health Program at the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center, and Monday, December 14 benefits youth grief support program Camp Erin.
