In Other Words, the last surviving nonprofit feminist bookstore in the United States, has served the community for the past 15 years; it offers “a diverse collec tion of books, magazines, and zines with a wide variety of subjects, including feminist & queer studies [...] and trans studies.” In Other Words remains a beloved com munity center, a hub o f progressive thought where the oppressed find reprieve and open minds find enlightenment. Recently rescued from the brink o f closure, In Other Words depends solely on the community it serves for support. On Friday, October 23, the shop hosts a benefit concert featuring two fantastic bands, As if that isn’t enough to soothe the soul, the concert will also showcase choirs from M C C , Ainsworth U CC, com bined choirs from New Thought and Portland Centers for Spiritual Living, First Unitarian Church, and Jubilate. This promises to be a truly inspirational event.
