According to Portland Latino Gay Pride organizer David Martinez, approximately 1,000 people - “at capacity” - participated in the four-day “La Lucha!”-themed festivites. Still, some Pride-goers, like Charles Milne, felt this year’s festival was disorganized, and on the contrary, had fewer vendors and less representation from the city’s gay, lesbian, bi and trans clubs and organizations. Milne said he shied away from the booze-soaked block parties for Sunday’s parade - what he believed was a weekend highlight. “The creativity, and community that this builds is incredible,” Milne said. Kaplan was likewise “thrilled” with Sunday’s pa rade; both he and Calvo witnessed larger crowds than expected and buoyant energy throughout. “My understanding is that our parade had more entries than the Rose Parade!” Calvo said. Porta confirmed: “This year was the largest Portland Pride Parade to date, at 120+ organizations/entries, rang ing from as few as 12. people to up over 200 each. To compare, the Rose Parade as far as I know, had around 90 entries.” “It was such a great mix along the route, straight, gay, families, children, you name it,” Kaplan added. Still, Milne’s concerns turned to mak ing this year’s theme a better realized vision in future outings. “I just wait for the time when Pride becomes more about the gay civil rights movement o f its roots and less about corporate profit, and alcohol and the next good hook up.” Pride-goers poured into Tom McCall Waterfront Park for two days of rainbow-hued celebration. 5 o 3 -5 9 3 -9 6 o i Wills 6c Living Trusts Healthcare Directives Hospital Visitation Power of Attorney Domestic Partnerships Probate 6c Trust Administration John C.
