Almost a decade before AIDS
multidrug "cocktails" began prolonging
lives for HIV-infected people, the
toxic drug AZT reigned supreme. In
its first decade of publishing. Just Out
painstakingly chronicled the AIDS
pandemic's progress. The 1988 scathing
attack on the dangers of AZT ("The terrible
facts of AIDS and AZT will certainly play
a part in determining the future of us gay
people," author Ian Young wrote) is a
standout. Also of note: Some of Young's
and Just Out's reporting would later be
cited in Oregon Citizens Alliance co
founder Scott Lively's disgusting 1996
book, The Annotated Pink Swastika,
which attempts to link the U.S. gay
rights movement with Nazi Germany.
