NIGHTLIFE NIGHTLIFE NIGHTLIFE NIGHTLIFE NIGHTLIFE In imitation of The Price Is Right, audience members are encouraged to shout out whether the value of certain prizes are higher or lower than the given amount. The Let's Make a Deal games could win someone a worthy prize (like a gift certificate to a restaurant) or a dud (such as a rubber chicken) when risk-takers choose among the tempting shiny boxes. “We all had a great time doing the first show, Calhoun says. “We’re working on getting a few of the kinks out so things go a little smoother. There seem to be two camps of people, those that enjoy the ‘show’ part and then those that seem like they would just rather play all bingo, so we have to try to find a happy medium. The one thing that [is] the most important aspect—have fun!” —Julius Calasicas What happens at Gaym Show Bingo Night stays at Gaym Show Bingo Night. Every Wednesday, hostesses Sharmai and Car lotta make sure something fun is always happen ing to the crowd of cheering homosexuals stamp ing their bingo cards and sipping their drinks at Crush, 1400 S.E. One dollar will buy you three bingo cards and a chance to win the jackpot—“$56!,” a winner shouted after opening his prize envelope. The competition was stiff, but the atmosphere was as bright and gay as the decorations. The festivities came com plete with sequin-covered prize boxes, a wheel to determine drink specials and sound effects provided by a blond maid. The staff was all in drag, and some of the contestants were dressed up like Midwestern white trash. Participants varied in age, but they all shared the same goal: winning those big bucks. “I got the idea from these two drag queens in Mexico playing bingo,” says Mitch Cal houn, Crush’s co-owner and. Sharmai’s male counterpart. “We added the game show ele ment in between bingo games Audience participation is encouraged during Gaym Show Bingo Night every Wednesday at Crush. with prizes from Goodwill.” Get a FREE TEST for HIV, syphilis, or hepatitis C!
