ing Arts. Peacock After Dark will benefit the Au-
dria M. Edwards Scholarship Fund.
Organizers promise a top-notch cabaret-style
revue by invitation, similar to that of the Peacock
in the Park show. The event is open to all ages,
and families are encouraged to attend.
Shortages of money and organizer burnout
were the reasons the decade-long Peacock in the
Park disappeared. “All the reasons we stopped do
ing it still exist, except we’ve had a chance to rest.
In 2004, we’d been doing it for 10 years. We were
all fairly exhausted,” said Van Patten in Decem
ber 2007. “All the other reasons—that it’s all very
expensive to put on, that we have to make it not
only the best part in the city but a fund-raiser as
well—those challenges still exist.”
The new event, however, is much more af
fordable for its organizers. “It is absolutely much
more affordable because we don’t have to bring in
porta-potties, security and Dumpsters,” said Van
Patten. “We think this is a more fiscally respon
sible event, since our objective is to raise money
for charity.”
The original Peacock in the Park was free,
with money for the scholarship fund being raised
through sponsorships, concessions, souvenir
stands and a tip bowl. The new event will raise
money through sponsorships and ticket sales.
Tickets will be sold at two levels: preferred
seating and an exclusive reception with an open
bar and appetizers at the patron levej, and a no
host cocktail party in the Art Bar for nonpatron
attendees. Tickets go on sale June 29 at Ticket
master and the box office, 1111 S.W. Broadway.
A limited supply of presale tickets will be avail
able June 14 and 15 at Portland Pride. Look for
the Peacock After Dark booth for details.
