I am still so angry, I could spit," says Donna Red Wing (right, with fellow activist Kathleen Saadat). “One of the great things is that it reached the international community and even played in South Korea,” notes MacDonald. “Oregonians can be very proud—even though pained that they had to go through the campaign—that what they did has given hope and inspiration to so many people around the world.” The DVD also features the bonus segment “9 Remeasured: Update Documentary,” in which activists Seibert, Kathleen Saadat, Donna Red Wing and others express a remarkable sense of hope for the future and an appreciation of the countless people who did whatever they could to defeat Measure 9. They also discuss what it was like to watch the movie again and relive those moments. A common theme is that they can still feel the pain but that they do not regret their expe rience of going through it. “I could still feel the raw emotion...all that stuff never went away. I am still so angry, I could spit,” Red Wing says. They are hurt not only from the ugliness of the campaign itself but also from the division within the gay community about how to defeat the measure. “What Donna and Kathleen talk about very clearly in the update documentary is that there is one way to win a campaign, and then there is another way tb build community and win a campaign, and that they are at odds with each other,” notes MacDonald. When she gathered Red Wing and Saadat to view the film and make comments for the DVD, they sat in total silence as they fell completely into the film. It was that emotional for them. It took a while before they could step back and start recording their thoughts. When MacDonald watched the movie for the first time after so many years, she said she cried especially when she saw footage of the Walk for Love and Justice, which extended from Eugene to Portland.
