T ad W illiams Antique and Gold Leaf Restorer “1 know where I used to be: at the mirror, getting ready to go out like any good fag. Now I’m at home, but 1’11 have at least just come back from a movie.” My name is Gina Hoggan. I am known as a program manager. 1 am a social work' er who works with at-risk youth trying to unite them with their families. K ristin S mith Dreamer “I like to be at home on the deck with my girlfriend and our two cats and a glass of wine.” I am 43 years old. I feel 43, and for the most part 1 like it. 1 am even enjoying my new highlights [in my] gray hair. 1 just wish 1 had the energy of when I was younger. My childhood ambition was to be a pirate. 1 was very sad when 1 realized I would never really get to be a swashbuckler. My first same-sex crush was on Emma Peel (Diana Riggs) of The Avengers when I was 9 years old. My best friend at the time was the girl across the street. When we played cowboys and Indians, 1 always got to be the chief and she was the Indian princess. We would dance around and sing to that old Turtles song “So Happy Together." 1 was devastated when her family moved away. D avid F redrickson Architect and Naturist Social worker Gina Hoggan has helped grow Vancouver's Saturday in the Park into an inclusive event. I like to spend my down time reading, gardening, gaming, camp ing, hiking, hanging out with family and friends. Sleeping is big on my list, too. Washington Park or anything that involved books, coffee and trees. Primitive camping in a wilderness area is even better with books and coffee. My proudest moment was when I won a lifetime achievement award for community contributions at Saturday in the Park this year. The other committee members and my partner were awfully sneaky. 1 had no clue. I was very flattered and surprised. Everyone was very sweet and made me cry, dammit! My first job was washing dishes at my grandparents’ restaurant at age 15 on weekends. A perfect day in Portland would be spent at Powell’s, Starbucks, J oyce S tilwell Hippie Chick My vice is bœks, cigarettes and 100 percent agave tequila. I find inspiration in my family and nature. My biggest challenge is that I tend to procrastinate. It could also be that 1 am constantly reprioritizing and overly busy. Some things just never make it to the top of the list, like cleaning the garage. I think it’s kind of symptomatic of modem life. We are all just too busy to get it all done. “At home in bed, sound asleep, but that’s because I’m almost 63.” My last queer event was Saturday in the Park. “I would like to be canoeing under a full moon in the Scappoose Bay with my girlfriend and a bottle of wine." My highest hope for the cause is to someday have it just of absolutely no popular interest what someone’s sexual orientation is unless you might possibly date them. —Neethu Ramchandar Find Your Diamond in the Pearl.
