I was very impressed with this year’s turnout! Nope, we’re not California, hut
what felt like a lagging year last year felt like a rousing success this year! More
folks lined the parade route; the festival area itself was jam-packed with all sorts
of different folks. There were so many people there that I didn’t even run into
any ex-girlfriends. Compare and contrast is never helpful, especially when
you’re talking about different cities/states. Measure progress against the thing
itself, and it’s remarkable to me that so few people were able to put on so large
an event. Kudos, Pride Northwest!

The whole scene—parade and festival—was such a happy and wonderful
experience. I look forward to the gathering of like individuals every year. Having
dogs around is a great excuse to talk to people. I hope one bad dog owner and
experience won’t blow it for the rest of us who enjoy having them around.

I had a great time at Pride, both the parade and the waterfront. Although some
acts were not my “cuppa” tea, I thought Pride Northwest did a great job of
getting top acts to perform, and presented a lot of diversity in musical styles as
well as new features like the underwear fashion show. Pride is the time when
we all get to be gayer than gay, to celebrate, be freaky, be stylish, have fun, get
down! Pride is about how we are different and to recognize that it hasn’t always
been safe for us to celebrate who we are and who we love. We are lucky in
Portland to have such great support in our community. Way to go, Pride
committee, for throwing a kick-ass party!

This was the second year that I’ve been involved in the festival, and the first
year officially. There were, and always are, growing pains in an event this size,
particularly with a volunteer staff that experiences turnover. Such is the nature
of community volunteerism. For myself, I can speak to the number of people
who approached me to let me know how much they were enjoying the
