Festival to ask, "What's your
favorite queer film?"
ick Brissette is a big player in the state’s queer
political scene.
He was recently honored with the Ken Hull
Community Cornerstone Award for his critical
role in passing a nondiscrimination ordinance in
Lincoln City that includes sexual orientation and gender
identity.
Brissette was the sole gay person on the Governor’s
Task Force for Equality, which successfully recommended
statewide nondiscrimination and domestic partnership
laws.
He was also a member of the Lincoln City Planning
Commission and president of the chamber of commerce
and has worked hard to finance the town’s new cultural
center as a member of the City Council.
Brissette and his partner, Dan Beck—Lincoln City’s
2004 couple of the year—own the Little Antique Mall,
the largest store of its kind on the Oregon coast.
Brissette takes great pride in the rural community he
represents. He received tremendous support, and not one
testimonial in opposition, when both the city and state
nondiscrimination measures were proposed in Lincoln
City and Lincoln County.
He speaks to Just Out about his work and passion for
the Oregon coast.
