Love Makes a Family, a social change organization for queer
headed families, is hosting a series of performances by internation
ally known character actor and queer Quaker Christian Peterson
Toscano.

drawn from his own past,
which includes spending 17
years on three continents
seeking “ex-gay” therapy.
He will perform at four

101—Now I Know My
gAy,B,Cs! will be presented along with excerpts from Toscano’s
other works 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at Darcelle XV, 208 S.W. Third Ave. In
this one-man performance piece, he playfully explores what it
means to be queer in the 21st century. He plays a cast of characters
drawing on the inspiration of poets Audre Lorde, Langston Hughes,
Walt Whitman and Federico García Lorca. The suggested donation
is $10.
Queer 101 will also be presented to kids 23 and younger 7 p.m.
Jan. 24 at the Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center, 2100 S.E.

Doin’ Time in the Homo No Mo Halfway House—How
I Survived the Ex-Qay Movement! will be performed 7:30 p.m.
Jan. 27 at Metropolitan Community Church of Portland,
2400 N.E. Broadway. Through six characters, Toscano takes the
audience on a tour of a 12-step Christian program that attempts
to save men and women from the snares of homosexuality.
Based on his real-life experience in various ministries, the show
weaves together humor, program jargon and outrageous eye
witness accounts to form a piece that is hilarious, poignant and
inspirational. A freewill offering wilhbe taken.
The premiere performance of The Re-Education ofQeorge W.
Bush will take place 7 p.m. Jan. 23 at Peace House, 2116 N.E.
18th Ave. Through a series of lively lessons, Toscano playfully
instructs the president and his Cabinet on history, the economy,
privilege, environmentalism, the Bible and humanity. Bitingly
funny and painfully insightful, Peterson takes no prisoners as he
speaks to the George W. Bush in all of us. Admission is $10.
Excerpts from this work will also be presented at the other
Portland events.
Toscano will lead a community conversation 7:30 p.m. Jan. 26
at Salem’s Freedom Friends Church, 2425 13th St. S.E. The event
will include excerpts from all of Toscano’s performance pieces
along with an opportunity to join in a community dialogue about
the issues he raises.
