My college roommate (class of 1990) used to be a lesbian, like me. We were
never a couple, but we were close and fooled around a few times during our room­
mate years.
Now Liz is married to a man and has two kids. She recently looked me up and
tried to rekindle our old friendship. At first 1 wanted to he receptive to her, but
now 1 feel like she is desperate for lesbian contact and is using me.
Every time we go to dinner, she grills me for information about my life: who 1
go out with, what I do with them, what my friends do, what my sex life is like.
These are not just casual questions, hut deep-probing interviews. I believe she
misses the female culture, women friends and definitely pussy.
Is it OK for me to tell her gently to hack out of my personal business and if
she’s so interested to find her own lesbian life? Or is that rude? I’ve always just
answered the questions, but now I’m thinking maybe I should try to deflect them.

In any friendship, people share information about their lives, their friends and
what they do each day.
If the real problem for you is Liz’s questions about your sex life, you might

leaves the fold (so to speak), she’s out in the cold, no longer entitled to hear extra-

But really...do you know why you’re so offended by the notion that Liz is

Ahh. Maybe that’s what you’re mad about! You're reminiscing about your care­
free time in the late '80s, when you and Liz were fun and nubile college students,
lying around and studying in your underwear and jog bras. Sometimes studying
