Cuti season picnic and asked players a softball version of a tradi* tional game question, “If you were stranded in a deserted softball field, who would you want with you, and why? n getting to know Dave Grant Kohl, one learns more about a history of queer Port­ land, a growing of the Metropolitan Community Church and a little art histo­ ry than they do about the biographer himself. “I’m fascinated by how things come to be what they are,” he said. Kohl, a retired art and art history teacher who has lived in lower West Linn for 25 years, throws pottery for his Mug Man business, writes and researches for Fxxiks about Portland’s gay history, grows bamboo, vol­ unteers for the Chinese Gar­ dens and sings with the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus. His interest in Asian cul­ ture stems from a seven-year teaching stint in Hong Kong. Kohl’s work as a histori­ an of gay and lesbian Port- land began as a project in celebration of MCC’s upcoming 30th anniversary.
