According to its
mission statement,
the group builds
“bridges of under
standing between...ethnic, cultural, spiritual,
political, economic, age-based, physically chal
lenged, sexual and gender minority groups” and
encourages “constructive communication and a
celebration of our differences and recognition
of our similarities” by presenting “musical,
choreographic and artistic productions that
reflect these goals in their spirit and content.”
Shout Out seeks to bring people together to
take action on issues including
child abuse, discrimination,
hate crimes, health care,
homelessness, human rights,
literacy, poverty, substance
abuse and violence.
In 2003 it released the 16-
song disc One World, One
Voice, containing seven origi
nal compositions written by
members of the group along
with music by Carole King,
Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds
and Carole Bayer-Sager and
songs written for the musical
group Up with People.
