Career Conference.

Portland State University will play host to
the city’s first-ever Queer Career Conference on
April 19 in Room 327 of Smith Memorial Cen­
ter, 1825 S.W. Broadway. This is a free confer­
ence for PSU and community college students
and alumni.
The event will feature national speaker Kirk
Snyder, author of The Lavender Road to Success
(Ten Speed Press). His book has been hailed by
critics and readers alike as the definitive r-
career b<x>k for the sexual minorities commu­
nity. As the foremost authority on rhe subject
of queer career success, Snyder’s groundbreak­
ing research at University of Southern Cali­
fornia has focused national attention on the •
tremendous value and strength of the sexual
minorities community in the world of work.
Also speaking will be ubiquitous queer
City Commissioner Sam Adams, Basic Rights
Orégon executive director Roey Thorpe, Just
Out publisher Marty Davis, Nike executive
Jackie Thomas and Portland General Electric
executive Brian Craig. The featured panels will
include “It’s a Queer Life: Finding Work Serv­
ing the Queer Community,” “Queer Career
Basics: Résumés and Job Search Strategies,”
“Networking and Mentoring: Growing Yourself
and Your Career,” “Transitioning and Work:
Transgender Job Search and Employment
Issues.” The day will round out with a workshop
by Act for Action: Theater for All.
The event is sponsored in part by the PSU
Diversity Action Council, the Student Activi­
ties and Leadership Programs Speaker’s Board
and the Division of Student Affairs.
