Her partner lives in Southern California,
and the two are not able to see each other
often. Svani admits she yets lonely sometimes.
“1 miss the hugs,” she says.
As a single woman, finances are also a con
cern for Svani. Even though she put $600 a
m onth into a retirement account while she
was working, she fears that her money will run
out someday. Like many seniors, Svani finds
Medicaid inadequate in covering common
elderly medical expeases like dental work,
hearing aids and eyeglasses. She is also con
cerned about veterinarian hills for her several
canine and feline companions.
As for her future, Svani says: “I am looking
forward to either stabilizing the relationship I
have now and making plans to live together. If
that is not going to work, we need to set each
other free so I can possibly meet someone. I’m
a people person. 1 miss having someone in my
house other than my pets.”

Isaacs encourages younger queers to he
both adventurous and cautious. “The greatest
thing l can wish for anybody in the sexual
minority community is not to let fear stop you
from living.”
Isaacs says aging has brought a certain level
of spiritual awareness. “I know l am exactly
where I need to he. I see God in everyfxxly—
even the jerks.”

ikki Isaacs, 61, identifies as a bisexual
transgender man. “I am male to
female, a little more than a cross-
dresser and not quite transsexual.” Isaacs has
been married for 10 years. “If I were not mar
ried to a woman I am in love with, I would he
considering hormones,” Isaacs says.
“1 thought 1 was very free in my 20s and
30s,” Isaacs says. “I was so promiscuous. 1 didn’t
care if anykxly knew I was gay. But now I real
ize I was only letting myself reveal a part of me
because 1 didn’t understand the other part: the
part that was transgender.’’
As a trans senior, Isaacs hopes to impart
some wisdom to the younger generation.
