It’s more than a hunk of ground-up meat on a hun. But what, then, to make of the Turkey Burger? The Garden or Lentil Burger? The Portobello Mushroom Burger? These variations of the beef burger are in themselves subversions o f the norm. The Spicy Black Bean Gardenburger® cried out to me. Once a promotional item, it’s now been added to the permanent Burgerville menu. Dripping with Tillamook pepper jack cheese and chipotle mayo, this sandwich is dangerous to eat in five wolfing bites in your car. It’s quite tasty and makes you feel pseudo-healthy, as long as you avoid the instant heartburn and mess that I incurred. (Oh yeah, their regular burgers are good, too.)
