he American Civil Liberties Union is urg
ing the Washington Court of Appeals to
recognize the parental rights of a lesbian who
has separated from the biological mother of her
daughter. Attorneys submitted a ffiend-of-the-
court brief in the case, which was argued Oct. 3.
“Being a parent isn’t just about DNA. Some
one who loves, cares for, raises and supports a
child from birth can he just as important to that
child as the person who gave birth,” attorney
Leslie Cooper said. “The court should recognize
