diligent post atop Helens Pacific Cosnimers
on Northeast Glisan Street for the past
seven years or so. Early in the week of
Sept. 15, brazen and heartless knaves
climbed two sets of ladders to the rooftop
and lugged away the faithful sentinel— floor
bolts and all.

ture. Nope, this
elephant dates hack to the early 1900s and is
a relic of an early Rose Festival parade. Orig­
inally a papier-mache beauty, the fiberglass Prowlers pilfered Pam’s pachyderm
was added to protect from nx)ftop weather
elements. Apparently, fiberglass is not a
theft-deterrent product.
A disheartened Monnette is offering a
reward for the return of her elephant. She
reports that no ransom calls have been
received. Any and all helpful information
should be reported to the elephant sighting
hot line at 503-254-2005.
Portland film director Gus Van Sant is
not considered to be a person of interest in
this case.

he Portland Area Business Association,
the chamber of commerce for Rose
City gay men and lesbians and their friends,
set sail Sept. 17 on the Willamette. A fine
gathering of business folk came out for an
evening of socializing and networking.

• PABA president James Giardina has
left his position at La Rog’s. After 14 years in
the jewelry sales and design business, he is
considering doing almost anything except
jewelry sales and design.
• Hawthorne fave eating spot Daydream
Cafe is with us no longer. Closed up and
gone away. Phone number disconnected.
• Ernesto Garcia announced that, as of
Sept. 8, Ernesto Garcia Interiors Inc. would
no longer be in business.
• Portland’s N o Fish! G o Fish! was
honored by People for the Ethical Treat­
ment of Anim als as their restaurant pick
of the month for September. This was in
recognition of the commitment by own­
ers John Doyle and Sean Brown to pre­
sent numerous exceptional dining
options for vegetarians and vegans. The
Queer Profit is not allowed to do ftxxJ
reviews, but if it did, this restaurant
would receive glowing praise. Their soup
must be the best in Portland. But again,
