Early in the week of Sept. 15, brazen and heartless knaves climbed two sets of ladders to the rooftop and lugged away the faithful sentinel— floor bolts and all. The elephant in question isn’t your average, run-of-the-mill pink fiberglass by trunked* crea­ Marty Davis ture. Nope, this elephant dates hack to the early 1900s and is a relic of an early Rose Festival parade. Orig­ inally a papier-mache beauty, the fiberglass Prowlers pilfered Pam’s pachyderm was added to protect from nx)ftop weather elements. Apparently, fiberglass is not a theft-deterrent product. A disheartened Monnette is offering a reward for the return of her elephant. She reports that no ransom calls have been received. Any and all helpful information should be reported to the elephant sighting hot line at 503-254-2005. Portland film director Gus Van Sant is not considered to be a person of interest in this case.
