Pride 2002
Dear Community4 Members:
The 2003 Pride board is full of fresh faces and ideas. While there are
still several known and loved board members from years past, there
are several new members as well. With new people come new ideas
and differing perspectives and values; thus, this year our focus for
Pride has changed slightly.
We as a board have dedicated ourselves to reaching less-represented
communities and people within the larger LGBT movement. We
choose to focus to a large extent on diversity and making our event
fun and exciting for our returning folks as well as hopefully seeing
some new faces.

At Portland Pride 2003, we wish to provide a safe venue for community groups to affect social
change in an educational and entertaining manner. We seek to plan a colorful and visible
event that will present a fun and inclusive opportunity to create community using a process
that is accessible and transparent to others.
We are trying to expand our visions of the event to accommodate the growing needs and vaL
ues of the LGBT communities, and respect the different viewpoints that we know are present,
while still sustaining a fun and enjoyable event. Our theme reflects the lightheartedness and
fun that we are trying to bring to the event, as well as symbolizing the diversity of individuals
coming together to create family and friendships.
We will have several gates this year to hopefully accommodate the numbers we expect, and of
course we are trying to keep the event at a donation level so that our communities of all
income levels can enjoy the festivities. We are also moving our stages; this way, both stages
will be encompassed by the security gates. This is for the safety and security of the venue and
the people attending. Additionally, we are supporting our community members with disabili
ties through a variety of new performances and hopefully eliminating many of the festival
ground hazards. We hope that you find signs of our new commitment present throughout the
event and that it is quite enjoyable for you.
