he Seattle LG BT Community Center will
he unveiled officially during a grand open
ing festival, street fair and ribbon-cutting cere
mony June 22. All of the events are free and
open to the public.
The center, which is located at 1115 E. Pike
St. on Capitol Hill, will open its doors with an
open house featuring tours and community
information tables sponsored hy organizational
members at 2 p.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony
featuring Mayor Greg Nickels starts at 4.
A festival and street fair will feature music,
ftxxl and a beer garden from 5 to 9 p.m. Enter
tainers will include Jennifer Jasper, the Timber-
line Bucks, the Visqueens, Mark Finley, Those
Fabulous Fakes, Lisa Welch, Mr. Washington
Leather Tony Buffalini and Tara Hardy.
Seattle Pride ’02 will he held June 29 and 30 at
Volunteer Park. The parade starts 11 a.m. June 30.

W ounds of H omophobia
ay counselor Larry Rogers will hold a sem
inar to help people heal the emotional
wounds of homophobia July 12 to 14 at Breiten-
hush Hot Springs, a retreat center located in the
middle of an old-growth forest about two hours
southeast of Portland near Detroit.
Prejudice, shame and fear touch virtually all
sexual minorities and their families, according
to Rogers. How people view themselves deeply
affects how they live in the world today and how
they relate to others.
“1 invite all people affected hy prejudice to
this safe place and time to experience new ways
of being and feeling," Rogers says. “Find a whole
new level of acceptance of yourself and others.
Enjoy the freedom that comes from taking off
the masks that hide our tme magnificence.”
Rogers is a counselor and hypnotherapist with
a private practice in Portland. He has more than
12 years of experience facilitating seminars on
diversity, homophobia, psychosiKial AIDS issues,
public speaking, mind-body medicine and team
building for schmls, universities and corporations.
The seminar will he assisted hy Lynne Accetta,
a mental health counselor and hypnotherapist
with more than 10 years of experience. Her pri
vate practice is located in the Seattle area.
The sliding-scale cost of the seminar is $275
to $475, which includes two nights of lodging
and meals. Scholarships are available.

ewish Family & Child Service, which drew
30 people to its first sexual minority potluck
last month, has scheduled another dinner for
6:30 p.m. June 30. The theme will he mentor
ship for queer youth.
Representatives of Love Makes a Family will
play host to the event, where attendees will
learn about options, meet new and old faces,
and eat well. People are asked to bring kosher
vegetarian dishes.
