dancing, door prizes, food and anonymous HIV
testing for all queers 23 and younger. (Those of
you over 23 who missed the prom should see
the “Rainbow Ball” above.)
Speaking of balls, Corvallis launches a new
tradition with its first-ever Stonewall Ball from
7 to 11 p.m. June 28 at the Adair Clubhouse.
No politics, no speeches— only a party to cele
brate community. For $25 those 18 and older
partake in appetizers, dancing and a no-host
bar. Suggested “funky formal" attire ranges,
reportedly, from black tie to black Levis.

awarded more than $15,000 last year. Music
begins at noon; the show takes the stage at
2:30 p.m. Free shuttles run 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Empress XLIV of the Imperial Sovereign
Rose Court, Poison Marie Waters: “I
wanted to give you a heads-up about
Empress Week 2002. Instead of the usual
Empress Show that the reigning Empress holds
once a year, I thought I’d have an entire week
dedicated to. ..ME!” You’ve gotta love that
kind of honesty, so here’s what you can do to
give thanks at the altar of Poison.
June 23 is the Empress Show at
Darcelle XV, 208 N.W. Third Ave. Starts at
8 p.m., and your $10 admission goes to Camp
Starlight, a summer camp for kids whose lives
have been affected by HIV. In a graceful show
of munificence, Poison has invited past Rose
C ourt Empresses and reigning Queens from
around the Northwest to perform, too.
June 25 she plays host to an all-ages drag
show at Darcelle’s. Starts at 8 p.m., and your
$5 admission goes to the Audria M. Edwards
Scholarship Fund, administered annually to
queer undergrads or collegiate kids of queers.
June 26 Poison plays host to karaoke night
at Boxxes, 1035 S.W. Stark St. Starts at 9 p.m.;
no cover.
June 27 she ventures into Portland’s lesbian
bar, the Egyptian, 3701 S.E Division S t, for the
drag extravaganza Queens on the Nile. Starts at
10 p.m., and your $5 goes to Bradley-Angle
House, which works to end domestic violence.
June 28 is the Friends and Family show
7 p.m. at Embers, 110 N.W. Broadway. This
event showcases Mr./Ms./Miss Gay Oregon
titleholders and their friends. N o cover.
June 29 brings a very special episode of her
weekly Church of the Poison Mind 2 p.m. at
Silverado, 1217 S.W. Stark St. N o cover, yet
you’ll find food, dancers and dollar shots. After
ward, Poison heads to Embers for the 7 p.m.
Mr7Ms*/Miss Gay Oregon 2002 Pageant. Your
$10 goes to the Pride of the Rose Scholarship
Fund, awarded to Port land-area queers and kids
of queers for post-secondary education.
June 30 finds Poison at the biggest drag
show o f the year, Peacock in the Park at
Washington Park Amphitheater. A picnic at
noon precedes the show at 2:30 p.m.
