meditations by New York directors on the
word “huge.” Includes works in all veins,
including documentary, drama, comedy and
experimental.
Boys’ S horts : A collection of queer shorts
for guys, including “Crush,” the sweet story of a
little girl who falls for an older boy just coming
to terms with his homosexuality, and “Chop-
stick BkxxJy Chopstick,” a video by Wayne
Yung (a frequent festival favorite) and Shawn
Durr.
T he FLUFFER: A satire/tribute to the gay
pom world, this is the story of an aspiring,
timid cameraman who somehow manages to
land a dream job: keeping his favorite pom idol
aroused between takes.
Q jrls ’ S horts : A collection of lesbian
shorts for gals, including the car-crashing
"Block Party” and “Home for Christmas,”
which plays with the expectations and antici
pations surrounding a woman’s coming-out
experience.
* T he A dventures o f F elix : A young
man takes being laid off as an opportunity to
hitchhike his way across France in search of his

absent biological father. As Felix comes across
figures who are metaphorically his “little broth
er,” his “grandmother” and his “cousin,” it
becomes an engaging, pastoral excursion into
the relationships of the vast extended family
that is humanity.
D esi ’ s L ook / nq for a N ew Q irl . An
affectionate, knowing comedy about a young
Latina lesbian detennined to help an older
friend find a new love after a difficult breakup.
L .I .E .: It stands for Long Island Expressway,
and it’s about a neglected middle-class boy who
finds a surrogate family by becoming involved
in a relationship with a much older man. This
controversy magnet has won raves for its
uncompromising look at a subject most film
makers wouldn’t go near.
DRIFT: In what sounds like a gay Eyes Wide
Shut scenario, this digital video production
places a man into three different love triangle
possibilities. It’s already being touted for explor
ing the unique visual aesthetics of digital video.
* PERFECT S on : T wo brothers— one a
recovering alcoholic who’s alienated himself
from his family, the other a successful lawyer
hiding his homosexuality and HIV-positive sta
tus— reacquaint themselves with each other
after their father’s funeral. Exploring issues of
sibling rivalry, redemption and coming to terms
with both life and death, this film is a tough
but tender examination of two all-too-human
characters.
* W ebcam B oys : A fascinating documen
tary about a group of men who live— naked,
mostly— on camera, selling peeks via the Inter
net. W hat’s interesting about this film is the
unabashed vulnerability of its protagonists,
many of whom have deep-rooted, starkly con
fessed problems that go beyond their seemingly
universal, commodified sex appeal.
/RON L adies : The true story of a group of
Thai gay men, drag queens and transvestites
who, after a volleyball team is divided by
homophobia, fill in for the players who quit.
Shocking the sports establishment and the
nation, they prove quite adept at their sport,
cleaning up the competition while dealing
with their personal crises. JH
