unshine, grass, dogs,
babies, music,
weddings, God and
farmers all con
tributed to a serenely
successful Saturday in the
Park on June 14 at Esther
Short Park in Vancouver,
Wash. Drinking beer, munch
ing cherries, meeting friends
and rocking to Jody Crocker
and Swamp Mama Johnson.
Indeed, Vancouver knows
how to throw a festive event.
Amused, bemused and
puzzled passersby took in the
sights and sounds of the
annual Gay Pride celebra
tion. Rainbows and balloons
were bordered by Farmer’s
Market produce stands and by
a formal park wedding, com
plete with bridesmaids in lilac
dresses. This accidental
overlapping of events found
the neighboring newlyweds
taking their vows to the tunes
of the Rose City Swing Band.
This was indeed not your •
everyday Saturday in the
Park. This one was pretty
dam special. J H
