an evening out on the town, this is an excellent
place for that one last drink before calling it a

Southern exposure
few years back, six old friends decided to
venture somewhere none of us had been—
Key West, Fla. O f course, we had heard about
that mystical place in the East where palms
sway, the temperature never leaves the 70s and
rainbow flags are everywhere.
We previously had rented a villa together in
A
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, so we knew we’d enjoy
one another’s company. The key to our success­
ful trip was advance planning— seven months of
planning for our one-week stay.
The Key West Chamber of Commerce was
predictably helpful, sending lots of brochures
and listings for accommodations. Our interest
lay specifically with houses. W ith seven people,
we required four bedrooms and a pool within
easy walking distance of central Key West. Once
there, we wanted little to do with our rental car,
although it was an absolute necessity.
