he Sexual Minorities Roundtable decided
to delay the election of a new co-chair until
its January meeting.
The vote was expected to he held Nov. 14
but was postponed when the group faced
unprecedented interest in the position and was­
n’t clear about its own bylaws governing elec­
tions. Roni Lang and Frederick G. Hayes II will
be on the ballot.
The vacancy came when longtime round­
table member Lori Buckwalter resigned last
summer. The current co-chair is Norm Costa.

returning donations made to an account with a
court-ordered freeze on it— to avoid paying any
money on the judgment— they asked Judge
Marshall Amiton to hold the Mahons in con­
tempt of court.
He found the O C A in contempt and ordered
the couple to pay Stauffer. The organization
plans to appeal his ruling to pay the legal fees
associated with the contempt charge, totaling
several thousand dollars.
Stauffer said her new lawsuit against the sev­
eral O C A organizations, the Mahons and their
mailing business is proceeding. She expects
depositions to start early next year.
Stauffer is claiming the O C A fraudulently
has been transferring funds from one entity to
another to avoid paying its debt. Her attorneys
have not received an official answer to the law­
suit but expect one in the coming days.

Although the roundtable usually meets the
second Tuesday of each month at the downtown
Justice Center, the December meeting will take
place Dec. 2 at Multnomah County’s Central
Library. The venue change was arranged to
allow citizens who can’t usually make the week­
day meetings to attend. A Saturday meeting will
he held once every quarter.
The meeting will run from noon to 2 p.m.

U niversity
of P ortland
undreds of people attending the k.d. lang
concert Nov. 9 at the Chiles Center were
greeted with a flier slamming the University of
Portland for continually failing to support queer
students.
T h e handout, “W hat University of Port­
land Doesn’t W ant k.d. Fans to Know,” was
distributed as concertgoers filed into the cam ­
pus venue. It was unsigned because the uni­
versity allegedly has threatened expulsion for
the release o f this information.
“W ith the recent U P visitors such as Rosie
from M T V ’s T he R eal W orld, Melissa Ether­
idge and now k.d. lang, they are trying to give
a message to the public that they are OK with
queer issues,” the flier read. “There could he
