sculptures—
they aren’t known as chewers or diggers,
they’re very playful and affectionate, yet they
also sleep a lot. A nd because they’re carefully
bred to be good racing dogs, they lack many of
the health problems such as hip displaysia that
more popular, overbred breeds suffer from.
Greyhound Pets o f Am erica also brings dogs
ready for adoption to area Petco and PetSmart
stores most Saturdays. For more information or a
schedule of those store visits, call 800-366-1472
or visit the Internet site www.open.org/greyhnd.

A class act
f k.d. lang’s not your thang, perhaps you’d
prefer to hear what noted lesbian author

appears Nov. 9 at the Schnitz as part o f the
Portland Arts and L ec
tures series. Her novels
include Oranges Are Not
the Only Fruit, Sexing the
Cherry and her latest,
The Power book. Her
style is cutting-edge and
elegantly com bative,
and the New York Tunes
says she “has reinvigo
rated the novel.” W in
terson speaks— in what
will surely be a cool Brit
accent— 7:30 p.m. at
1037 S.W. Broadway.
