follow suit? How about Mult-
nomah County?
Back in October, the Ashland
City Council approved Oregon’s first
domestic partnership registry for same-
sex couples. Now Portland Mayor Vera
Katz is poised to go public with the
Rose City’s intentions.
Portland Mayor
Vera Katz may have

about a domestic

at her Jan. 28
State of the City
address
“We’ve been working with the coun
ty and some groups on the issue of
domestic partnership registries,” says
Elisa Dozono, a spokeswoman for the
mayor’s office. “She hopes to make a
public announcement soon."
Dozono declined to elaborate. (An
announcement may perhaps come dur
ing Katz’s State of the City address
scheduled for Jan. 28.)
Ashland’s registration program,
which took effect Nov. 3, applies solely
to same-sex couples 18 or older who
live together. H ie couples must sign
affidavits attesting to their relationship
and pay a $25 fee before receiving cer
tification.
